You can thank the patriarchy for the limited functionality in your clothing—yeah, I said it💥. It’s like, history. There is nothing I love more than taking up space by literally creating it in and on my clothing, and you can too dude. Instead of buying new, we can add practicality and personality to our existing garments, pushing back against overconsumption to create a more sustainable wardrobe.
Pockets give the ladies what they want, (outside of fundamental human rights and a new Rihanna album ) the opportunity to say:
“Thanks, I made it aaaaaand it has pockets!”
What’s my solu-sh : a hands-on virtual workshop of course. In Pockets, Pockets, Pockets! we’ll dive into techniques for adding and altering pockets on existing garments. While these techniques are designed to enhance your current wardrobe, the skills you learn can also be applied when constructing new garments as well- a win for present and future you.
“Pockets, like a purse for your pants.”
Together, we will rethink the way we interact with our clothes.
Instead of asking, “What can I fit in my bag or pocket?”
We’ll flip the script and ask, “What do I need a pocket for?”
This shift in perspective 🤯 allows you to create clothing that fits your life, rather than forcing your life into a standard mold. You are a girlie on the go and you have shit to take with you 🏎️ . Pockets are a way to customize your clothing to suit your needs, your routine, and your lifestyle.
On a personal note: As someone who lives with chronic pain 😣, I value having pockets because they help distribute weight across my body, making clothing feel more balanced and comfortable. The less I have to lug around an overstuffed bag, the better.
Also, isn’t it wild that we are made to feel ashamed of our pppppperiod 🩸, but our pockets aren’t even big enough to transport are super heavy tamps let alone ones for the tiniest of flows?!
“Equipped with yourself with so many pockets — the only thing weighting you down is the chip of feminist rage on your shoulder 😏.”
It’s not all just about function—pockets also add design and aesthetic interest 🤩. Often, we overlook basic, functional elements when brainstorming how to reimagine a garment. I love exploring how to update the look of clothes with thoughtful pocket placement that enhances the overall design.
And now, a poem:
hidden pocket, inside pocket, welt pocket with optional flap cargo pocket, side seam pocket, lined in fleece with a velvety nap
This seems like the best time to transition into this next weird ass video:
So, In conclusion:
patriarchy pockets = bad.
Pussy Pockets = good.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced sewer, this workshop will offer you practical tools to creatively and effectively integrate pockets into your clothing.
Join me in reclaiming space for our belongings, our style, and our autonomy—one pocket at a time 😘 !
